Ghana placed 18th in Africa as the most developed country, according to the 2025 World Population Review.
Surprisingly, countries like Sao Tome and Principe and Republic of Congo fared better than Ghana.
The country scored 0.628 and classified among medium in the Human Development Index (HDI).
Seychelles was ranked 1st in Africa and classified as very high together with Mauritius which placed 2nd.
From 3rd to 10th were Algeria, Egypt, Tunisa, South Africa, Gabon, Botswana, Libya and Morrocco. They were all classified as very high developed countries.
According to World Population Review 2025 data, the term “developed country” is often associated with high-income economies and advanced infrastructure. This definition however does not fully capture the broader, multidimensional nature of development.
To measure progress more accurately, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) evaluates countries across income, literacy rate, life expectancy, political stability, and access to essential services such as electricity and healthcare.
These indicators are aggregated into the Human Development Index (HDI), providing a comprehensive assessment of a country’s ability to improve the well-being and quality of life of its population.
