Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, aka Davido, has claimed that the Nigerian music industry would have been boring without him.
He made the claim on his X handle when he wrote, “Imagine no Davido…. Sh*t [the music industry] would have been boring AF.”
His post elicited mixed reactions, with many arguing that he was overestimating his contribution to the music industry.
This is not the first time Davido is claiming he is the lifeblood of the Nigerian music industry.
In an interview with Apple Music in April 2025, Davido claimed that the Nigerian music industry shut down when he took a break from social media in November 2022 following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
He claimed that both fans and trolls were begging him to return to social media during the three-month break.
The came into the spotlight in 2011 with the release of his hit song ‘Dami Duro’ at a time when the Nigerian music industry was witnessing the rise of young Afrobeats stars led by Wizkid.
Recently, veteran producer Samkleff claimed that Davido’s entry into the Nigerian music industry brought rivalry and toxicity to the industry.
He claimed that prior to Davido’s stardom, there was mutual respect among Nigerian artists.
