An okada rider has been killed in a gory road accident at Suame Maakro in the Ashanti Region after a trailer loaded with soya beans ran over him, eyewitnesses have told Adom News.
The tragic incident occurred when the trailer, with registration number GT-1963-13, reportedly trapped the motorbike rider with a hook attached to the long vehicle as he rode alongside it, pulling him under the truck and killing him on the spot.
The deceased, believed to be in his late 20s, had his body badly mutilated in the accident.
An eyewitness at the scene blamed the accident on the poor state of the road, which is currently under construction.
“This is not the first time. We have seen dozens of accidents here, but this time we are not lucky; a soul is gone,” the witness said. Another resident added that the ongoing construction has made the stretch extremely difficult to navigate, increasing the risk of crashes for motorists and motorcyclists.
Residents are now calling on authorities to speed up the road works to prevent further loss of lives.
“The ongoing construction work has rendered the road very difficult to ply, causing accidents. We hope they complete the work soon to avoid these accidents,” one resident said.
Police have since visited the scene and conveyed the body of the deceased to a morgue for identification and further investigations, while traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted following the incident.
