The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has launched a four-year strategic plan aimed at developing and promoting sports in the country.
The plan was unveiled at a ceremony in Accra. It was developed by consultant Chris Essilfie and will guide the Committee’s work and long-term direction from 2025 to 2029.
Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr Fred Awaah, who attended the event, praised the GOC for its commitment to proper planning and documentation.
He encouraged other sports federations in the country to develop similar plans if they want to receive support from the government.
“To get funding from the government, all federations and associations will have to replicate what the GOC is doing now,” Dr Awaah said.
“Documentation must be clear, and we must see your plans, because we cannot commit funds to projects we are uncertain about.”
Secretary General of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mohammed Miniru Kassim, said the roadmap is important because it will help shape the future of the organisation.
“The purpose of this programme is to put structures in place for the future. We must know where we are going, and that is why we have developed this plan with clear thematic areas,” he said.
Speaking to JoySports after the launch, GOC President Richard Akpokavie said the Committee will begin engagements with its federations and subcommittees to ensure everyone understands and follows the plan.
“We will hold meetings and have discussions with the federations and subcommittees to make sure everyone is aligned with what we want to achieve,” he said.
The Ghana Olympic Committee’s Strategic Plan will run from 2025 to 2029 and will serve as a guide for improving sports administration and strengthening Ghana’s Olympic preparations in the years ahead.
