The Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has strongly condemned a violent incident that occurred at the Akoti Health Centre in the Assin Fosu District on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
According to an official report from the facility, the incident happened while health workers were attending to two injured persons brought from Assin Wurakese for emergency medical treatment following an alleged assault.
The suspected assailant later arrived at the health centre to seek medical care.

During the course of treatment, a group of individuals reportedly stormed the facility, wielding offensive weapons, and attacked the suspected assailant in full view of health workers, patients and visitors.
The assault caused widespread panic, endangered lives and property, and disrupted normal health service delivery at the facility.
The Ghana Police Service has since been notified to investigate the incident, arrest all persons involved and take steps to strengthen security at the Akoti Health Centre.
In a statement dated Thursday, January 15, the Central Regional Health Directorate expressed grave concern over the attack, stressing that health facilities are neutral and protected spaces that must be respected at all times.
“The Central Regional Health Directorate strongly condemns all acts of violence within health facilities in the region. Health institutions are neutral and protected spaces dedicated solely to the preservation of life."
"Any attack on clients or health workers is unacceptable and undermines the safety, confidence and effective functioning of the healthcare system,” the statement said.
The GHS assured the public of its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of health workers, patients and visitors across the region, noting that it will continue to collaborate with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to prevent a recurrence.
It further appealed to the public to support efforts to maintain peace and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential health services across all health facilities.
