The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has announced new measures aimed at curbing intimidation and what he described as “mafia activities” within the party’s internal processes.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, January 19, Mr Kwetey said the move is intended to eliminate practices that have become common in many political parties, including intimidation and other rough tactics.
He said the party now requires all constituency executives to publicly announce and publish the official venues and times for branch meetings across their constituencies.
“For clarity, branch elections shall be conducted at the same approved venues and at the same scheduled times as the regular branch meetings,” Mr Kwetey stated.
According to him, the published lists will be strictly supervised and validated by regional executives and the National Executive Committee to ensure transparency, consistency and fairness throughout the process.
Mr Kwetey stressed that the exercise is not routine, but a deliberate, strategic and consequential intervention aimed at protecting the integrity of the party’s internal democratic structures.
“This must therefore be treated with the seriousness it deserves,” he said.
He further emphasised that, for the avoidance of doubt, party members are required to vote only in their respective branches.
“Your branch is where you vote. That is critical,” he added.
The NDC said the measures form part of broader efforts to strengthen internal democracy and prevent manipulation and intimidation during branch-level activities.
