Recent comments attributed to Villarreal’s head coach regarding Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey have sparked debate and criticism, but information available to JoySports suggests the remarks may have been misunderstood, with the player currently battling a serious injury setback.
Sources indicate that Partey has been suffering from severe pubalgia for close to two months, a condition that has significantly limited his mobility and prevented him from performing at his usual high level without experiencing considerable pain.
Pubalgia (also called sports hernia or inguinal-related groin pain) is a chronic pain condition in the groin and lower abdomen, especially common in athletes.
Despite the discomfort, the Black Stars midfielder continued to make himself available for selection in an effort to support his club during a difficult period, often playing through pain rather than sitting out.
The injury also explains Partey’s absence from Ghana’s recent international fixtures. The midfielder was advised to step away from national team duties to focus on treatment and recovery, with the aim of returning to full fitness rather than risk aggravating the problem.
Those close to the player insist there has been no lack of commitment on Partey’s part, stressing that his priority has been to manage the injury responsibly while remaining available to help his team whenever possible.
As Partey continues his recovery, expectations are that a fully fit return will allow the experienced midfielder to rediscover his best form, both at club level and for the Black Stars.
