The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso and a leading figure in Dr Bryan Acheampong’s campaign, Davis Opoku Ansah, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise cohesion and restraint following its presidential primary on January 31.
Mr Opoku Ansah warned that triumphalism could undermine the party’s unity ahead of the 2028 general elections, stressing that internal competition must be followed by cooperation.
He highlighted that contests within the party have never meant enmity, noting that former rivals and their supporters remain essential to the NPP’s overall success.
According to him, all party members must work together to strengthen the party at every level.
“Those who supported Dr Bawumia must also learn to be magnanimous. I have seen on TikTok a few guys trying to say one or two things. I think these are early days yet, these are honeymoon periods, we would allow them, but they should appreciate what this party is made of."
"At every level of this party, there has always been competition, and if people engage in competition, they are not enemies. Such people should even be brought on board to come and help secure victory,” he said in an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, February 2.
Dr Bawumia won the NPP flagbearer position after securing 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid ballots cast.
Kennedy Agyapong came second with 46,554 votes (23.76 per cent), while Dr Bryan Acheampong placed third with 36,303 votes (18.53 per cent). Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong followed with 1,999 votes (1.02 per cent) and 402 votes (0.21 per cent) respectively.
