12-year-old Ghanaian swimmer, Yamin Amankwah Boamah has put up an impressive performance at the Vancouver Island Regional (VIR) Championship, held from January 30 to February 1, 2026, setting 10 new Personal Bests.
Yamin, who was the youngest swimmer at the Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships held in Ghana last year, continued his brilliance in the pool at the three-day competition staged at the Saanich Commonwealth Place, Canada.
His events included the 1500 Metres Freestyle with a new PB of 19:53.83 which is a drop of -40.42 of his previous time.
Other events were 100m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, 200m Medley, 100m Freestyle, 400m Medley, 400m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke.


Yamin, who is a student of Monterey Middle School, clinched bronze in the 1500 Metre Freestyle at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Swimming Championships and helped secure silver as part of the 4x200m freestyle relay team.
His performances further cements his status as one of the most promising young swimmers to watch for team Ghana and on the international stage.
