The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has visited several schools severely impacted by a heavy rainstorm that struck the area on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The torrential downpour, accompanied by strong winds, caused extensive damage, most notably at Denyaseman Catholic Senior High School (SHS) in Poano, where a classroom block suffered partial collapse.
Roofing sheets were ripped off, walls weakened, and debris scattered across the compound, destroying furniture, desks, books, and other learning materials. Residents described the scene as heartbreaking.

“The winds were very strong, and we could see the roof shaking before it finally came off,” one eyewitness recounted.
Another added, “When we entered the compound, everything was scattered, tables, books, and roofing sheets all over the place.”
The destruction has forced students and teachers to abandon the affected classrooms due to safety concerns, disrupting academic activities. Other affected institutions include Huntado Kindergarten and the Behenase cluster of schools.

Accompanied by the Municipal Education Director, the NPP Constituency Chairman, and other officials, the MP conducted an on-site assessment of the damage on February 11, 2026.
During the visit, Poku-Adusei expressed relief that no students or staff were injured and commended their composure in the face of the incident.
He pledged immediate support to restore teaching and learning, committing resources from his Common Fund allocation under the GETFund to repair the damaged facilities.

The visit enabled him to gather firsthand information on the extent of the destruction and facilitate prompt resource allocation.
School authorities and community members praised the MP’s swift response, describing it as a clear demonstration of his commitment to education and the welfare of constituents in Bekwai.
Residents have called for urgent intervention to ensure the safety of remaining structures and to prevent further disruptions to schooling in the affected communities.
