The Wa District Magistrate Court has convicted three individuals for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.
The convicts, identified as Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan, were prosecuted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, after being found in possession of firearms and ammunition without lawful authority.
The three had previously been remanded in custody but reappeared before the court, where His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako presided over the proceedings. During the hearing, the accused pleaded guilty to the charges.
Based on their pleas, the court convicted all three and sentenced each to pay a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢2,400. In default of payment, they will serve nine months’ imprisonment.
The prosecution is part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal weapons possession and enhance public safety in the region.
Police have urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and maintain peace and security.
