The former boss of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei-Assibey Antwi, has retained Bekwai MP Ralph Poku-Adusei as his lead defence lawyer in the high-profile trial involving allegations of causing financial loss to the state.
The change was formally notified to the High Court through a filing on February 23, 2026, issued by Trent Legal Amansie Chambers and signed by Poku-Adusei as head of chambers.
Copies were served on the prior solicitors, the Attorney General's office, and the NIB. Poku-Adusei brings a track record of defending in major criminal trials, including the matter concerning the widow and family of late Kikibees Restaurant owner Bennet Agyekum Adomah, the Republic versus Bishop Daniel Obinim case, and the extradition of Blessing Adeleke.
His dual familiarity with prosecution and defence strategies is anticipated to strengthen the defence team's approach.
Ralph Poku-Adusei and six colleagues from his chambers represented Osei-Assibey Antwi in court on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
The state had intended to introduce an amended charge sheet expanding from 14 to 19 counts.
Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, however, did not preside due to illness.
Addressing journalists post-appearance, the lawyer highlighted key differences in the charge sheets. H noted that the claimed loss amount has dropped from GH¢631,629,744.00 to GH¢530,905,945.20.
He described the prosecution's burden of proof as formidable given the accompanying brief facts, while reaffirming his team's readiness to fight for the accused's complete exoneration.
Following consultations at Criminal Court 5, the matter stands adjourned to March 9, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
