Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has provided GH¢30,000 to support the resumption of road reshaping works on the Dotom-Koniyaw-Kokotro road in the Bekwai Municipality.

The amount, which is intended to purchase fuel for the DRIP machine being used for the exercise, has been allocated equally among the three communities, with GH¢10,000 each going to Dotom, Koniyaw and Kokotro.

The Assembly had commenced reshaping works on the road, but the exercise stalled after the DRIP machine ran out of fuel, while contributions from the communities were insufficient to sustain the work.

Mr Poku-Adusei said he decided to intervene following engagements with Assembly Members, community leaders and residents over the condition of the road.

He described the GH¢30,000 intervention as an immediate measure to help restore motorability while efforts continue towards a permanent solution.

The MP recalled that in 2024, he mobilised GH¢160,000 from his own resources to reshape and surface the entire Dotom-Koniyaw-Kokotro road, at a time when DRIP machines had not yet been deployed to the Assemblies.

He said the 2024 intervention followed the tragic death of a pregnant woman who was being transported along the deplorable stretch while in labour.

Mr Poku-Adusei said he is also engaging relevant stakeholders to facilitate the return to site of B. Beniako, the contractor whose contract for the road was awarded in 2019, to complete the project.

He said his focus extends beyond the immediate reshaping exercise to securing proper construction and surfacing of the Dotom-Koniyaw-Kokotro road, as well as the Kensere-Biribiwomanmu-Pampaso and Anwiankwanta-Poano-Sarfokrom roads.

The MP said he remains committed to working with the Assembly, community leaders and residents to address the road challenges confronting communities within the constituency.
