Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to be the special guest of honour at the commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of the 28th February Crossroads Shooting Incident.
The event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, February 28, at the Nationalism Park, near the Accra Sports Stadium at Osu.
A statement issued by the Presidency said: “As Ghana marks 78 years of remembrance, we honour the brave ex-servicemen whose sacrifices shaped our nation’s march toward freedom.”
On 28th February 1948, at the historic Christiansborg Crossroads, three World War II veterans, Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey, were shot while peacefully demanding their rightful benefits.
The statement noted that their courage ignited a national awakening that ultimately paved the way for Ghana’s independence.
