Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign, has accused the Mahama administration of failing to deliver on its flagship 24-hour economy policy, describing it as “a bureaucratic shell” that has yet to create the jobs and economic momentum it promised.
Speaking on Newsfile a day after President Mahama’s 2026 State of the Nation Address, Aboagye said millions of young Ghanaians — many voting for the first time in 2024 — were sold a vision of public institutions operating round the clock.
“ Now where is it?” he recalled, referencing previous live television debates in which NDC communicators insisted the 24-hour economy was fully deliverable.
He noted that the government’s response has so far been anchored in legislation. President Mahama signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law in February 2026, creating a central coordinating body for the policy.
Companies operating two shifts qualify for a 25 percent corporate tax rebate, while those running three shifts can get 50 percent, alongside import duty waivers for qualifying machinery.
“Passing a law is not the same as delivering on a promise,” Aboagye said, adding that NDC leaders, in 46 publicly available videos promoting the policy, had presented it as an immediate, holistic solution — not a secretariat or authority.
“The young men and women who were hopeful — millions of young Ghanaians queued and voted for the first time. They are tired of waiting,” he said.
Aboagye also recalled the party’s national chairman promising that organisers on the Tema Motorway would be working at 1 a.m., and that businesses, nightclubs, and public offices would operate morning, afternoon, and evening — commitments he says remain unfulfilled.
