The District Court of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Accra has granted GH₵200,000 bail with two sureties to Latifa Salifu, the woman arrested in connection with the theft of a four-day-old baby boy from the postnatal ward of Mamprobi Hospital.

This decision was made during her second court appearance on March 4, 2026.

Latifa, charged with child stealing, had her lawyer, Dr Hamisu Muhammed, appeal for bail, assuring the court that she would not interfere with ongoing investigations.

The judge had initially considered remanding her but granted bail in the absence of the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Ani Adjie.

Latifa was first remanded on Friday, February 20, following swift police investigations and public cooperation that led to her arrest after the incident was reported on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The 33-year-old allegedly disguised herself as a nurse and took the baby under the pretext of administering medication after the baby’s mother, Precious Ankomah, delivered him on February 14, 2026.

She claimed she had also delivered at the hospital and was discharged due to la ack of care; however, police investigations found no records to support her claim.
