The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, is set to host the 2026 Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival from April 3 to 6.

The event, to be held under the distinguished patronage of President John Dramani Mahama, with support from the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Madam Ablakwa Dzifa Gomashie, will take place at the Odweanoma Mountains in the Eastern Region.

A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday in Accra said the festival, organised by the GTA, was Ghana’s premier adventure tourism event and the flagship activity during the Easter celebrations in Kwahu.

Over the years, the festival had become the main attraction drawing thousands of local and international tourists to the Kwahu enclave, while complementing the many social and recreational activities traditionally associated with the Easter festivities.

The statement said the 2026 edition would feature tandem flights for patrons, aerial displays, safety demonstrations, tourism exhibitions, and coordinated visitor experiences aimed at promoting Ghana as a preferred destination for adventure and domestic tourism.

It added that several other activities would take place across the Kwahu area during the Easter period.

These include street carnivals in various towns, musical concerts and nightlife events, cultural performances and traditional displays, as well as food bazaars showcasing Ghanaian cuisine.

Exhibition of Made-in-Ghana products, tourism activation programmes, community engagement activities, youth and recreational events, and corporate and private sector programmes would also form part of the celebrations.

The statement said the festival formed part of Government’s commitment to strengthening domestic tourism, promoting job creation, and advancing the growth of the tourism, culture and creative arts sector as a key pillar of national development.

The initiative aligned with the vision of President Mahama to expand economic opportunities through tourism and the creative economy, it said.

The statement said the GTA was working closely with the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, the Kwahu Traditional Authorities, Municipal and District Assemblies, security agencies, and private sector partners to ensure a safe, well-coordinated, and successful festival.

“We invite the public, corporate organisations, development partners, and the international community to participate fully in the festival to experience Ghana’s adventure tourism, culture, hospitality, and vibrant festive atmosphere.”
