Accra Hearts of Oak’s chances of winning a first league title in five years suffered another setback after Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Swedru All Blacks.
In what was their first match back at the Accra Sports Stadium since November 20025, Hearts conceded two first-half goals before crawling their way back to rescue a point through Mawuli Wayo and Frank Abora Duku.
The breakthrough came from the visitors when Rudolf Mensah beat the offside trap before rifling past Hearts keeper Solomon Agbasi in the 21st minute.
Seven minutes from half-time, William Danquah pounced on a defensive mix-up to double the visitors’ advantage.
Hearts captain Kelvin Osei-Asibey had flicked an innocuous-looking ball behind ostensibly for his goalkeeper to gather.
However, Agbasi slipped right before he could clear the ball, leaving Danquah with a gaping net to find, and he did not miss.
Hearts probed for a way back from then on, but were ultimately undone by the lack of cohesiveness and cutting edge.
Hearts had to wait until the hour mark for a glimmer of hope when Mawuli Wayo reacted quickest in the box to reduce the deficit.
Centre back Ali Mohammed flicked on Raphael Amponsah’s corner from the right, found Wayo at the back post, who acrobatically turned it in.
Thirteen minutes later, Frank Duku showed nerves of steel to find the back of the net after intercepting a back pass.
Hearts are now on 43 points, six behind league leaders Medeama S.C., while All Blacks are just a point above relegation with 32 points.
