The Ministry of Roads and Highways has cut the sod for the construction of the Gomoa Akotsi–Kwanyarko road in the Central Region following a series of armed robbery attacks that have plagued the route over the past two years.
Drivers and commuters who use the Gomoa Akotsi–Kwanyarko Road have expressed relief after the government officially launched the long-awaited road project.
The road has become notorious for armed robbery attacks, with more than 15 incidents recorded between 2025 and early 2026.
In one of the attacks, a commercial driver was shot dead, while several passengers were robbed of their valuables.
Speaking to Adom News, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, commended President John Dramani Mahama and the Ministry of Roads and Highways for responding to the concerns of residents.
According to the MP, the poor state of the road has made it easier for criminals to terrorise motorists for years.
He therefore believes the construction of the road will significantly improve security and transportation in the area.
Meanwhile, the member of Parliament for Agona East, Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, together with the chiefs of Gomoa Akotsi, welcomed the commencement of the project.
They expressed optimism that the rehabilitation of the road will improve access to farming communities, facilitate trade, create economic opportunities, and enhance the livelihoods of residents.
