The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has donated GH¢100,000 to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital to support the procurement of essential medical equipment following its accreditation as a secondary-level health facility.
The donation was presented at the hospital on Monday during a ceremony attended by the medical superintendent, hospital management, health professionals, constituency executives and the media. The support is intended to kick-start efforts to address equipment gaps that could limit the hospital’s ability to deliver the specialist services associated with its new status.
Hospital management says the Dental Unit requires new dental chairs, while the Eye Unit needs an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine to support the diagnosis and management of conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic eye diseases.
The upgrades are expected to strengthen specialist care and reduce the need for some patients to travel to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and other treatment facilities.
Presenting the funds, Mr Poku-Adusei said the intervention formed part of his vision of building a self-sufficient Bekwai where residents could access essential healthcare services locally.
“This is not the first time we have partnered with this hospital, and it will not be the last. My commitment remains unwavering. I will continue to be a dependable partner to this hospital,” he said.
The MP cited previous health interventions, including a free eye-screening exercise conducted in June 2026 with the Municipal Health Directorate and the Day Break Vision Project. During the exercise, 1,057 constituents were screened and 332 underwent free cataract surgeries.
He has also supported vulnerable patients with medical bills and donated a Firefly Phototherapy Machine to help treat newborns suffering from jaundice.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Serebour expressed gratitude and assured that the money would be used for its intended purpose.
Mr Poku-Adusei also pledged to work with the Ministry of Health and development partners to address outstanding equipment needs, while using his FM platform to educate the public on hospital procedures and improve relations between patients and staff.
