President Nana Akufo-Addo has paid a glowing tribute in remembrance of his former colleague, Ama Benyiwa Doe, who passed on over the weekend.
Describing the vociferous former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Central Regional Minister as "a good friend," the President spoke about his sadness over the incident.
The President, who is in the United States to attend the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, prayed for the soul of the late former Council of State member to "rest in perfect peace until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen!!"
Also paying tribute to his former appointee to the Council of State, former President John Mahama said, “She was not only a politician but also a gender activist and champion of women’s rights. Ama Benyiwa Doe was an embodiment of limitless courage, commitment and passion for service. May her soul rest in eternal glory.”
The former MP for Gomoa West and Central Regional Minister was popularly called 'Ama Chavez' for her strong political views, sharp rebuttal prowess and witty responses to questions.
She died at her Tema residence aged 73 after a protracted ailment.
