Tamale North Member of Parliament (MP), Alhassan Suhuyini, has criticised former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu for petitioning President Akufo-Addo to remove Kissi Agyebeng from office.

According to the lawmaker, Amidu's actions have paved the way for President Akufo-Addo to dismiss Agyebeng, much like he did with other individuals who demonstrated independence from his influence in the fight against corruption.

Suhuyini believes Amidu's conduct is unjust and warrants condemnation from all well-meaning Ghanaians.

Martin Amidu has petitioned President Akufo-Addo, seeking the removal of the current Special Prosecutor.

Dated April 30, 2024, Amidu's petition was subsequently forwarded to Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo on May 6, 2024.

In his petition, Amidu alleges procurement irregularities in the acquisition of vehicles for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and misconduct involving judges and the administration of justice.

Other accusations include violations of citizens’ rights through arrests and detentions, infringements on the right to information, and questionable personnel appointments within the OSP.

Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile programme on Saturday, May 18, Suhuyini insisted that Amidu's action is playing to the gallery of the incumbent party as far as hounding independent officials fighting corruption is concerned.

He added that Amidu should have known better, considering his treatment in office, which ultimately led to his resignation from the same Office of the Special Prosecutor.

"That is why I am disappointed that no matter how well-intentioned this agenda is, that it has given the President who over the period has proven to be very active when it comes to cutting people who stand in his way to size."

"That's why I am disappointed that no matter how well-intentioned this petition is, it is giving this president the opportunity to do what he has done to others who have decided to act in office independently of his control. I am disappointed that this is feeding into that agenda," he stated.
