Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed his commitment to enhance the socio-economic livelihoods of farmers, if voted into power in the December 7, elections. 

He said the modernisation of agriculture and the development of rural communities remained a priority, assuring that his government would build district irrigational dams and agricultural mechanization centres. 

The mechanisation centres would enable farmers to access modern farm equipment and tools including tractors and accessories and combine harvesters, among others to engage in large-scale farming. 

Dr Bawumia said this when addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Kajaji in the Sene East District of Bono East, as part of his campaign visit to the region. 

The Vice President is embarking on a three-day visit to the region to highlight and explain the NPP Election 2024 political party manifesto and canvass the votes of the electorates, as the December 7, polls gather momentum. 

Dr Bawumia noted that many rural communities in the country lagged in the nation’s economic development, saying about 80 per cent of the rural population was farmers and his government would also ensure that their socio-economic livelihoods were improved as well. 

He indicated that the establishment of agricultural mechanization centres and ready access to modern farm tools and equipment would inspire farmers to do more and thereby strengthen the implementation of the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PfFJs) programme. 

That would, accordingly, boost national food production for enhanced national food security, he stated, saying already the implementation of the PfFJs had already increased food production in the country. 

Dr Bawumia, therefore, called on the electorate in the area to vote for him when they go to polls for his government to strengthen the implementation of the government’s social intervention and other flagship programmes and alleviate the plight of the people. 

The Vice President later paid courtesy and interacted with the Bassa Traditional Council presided over by Nana Owusu Sakyi III, the Paramount Chief of the Bassa Traditional Area.
