Former Minister for Tourism, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has described Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strongest candidate and best hope of winning the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in a media interview on Thursday, January 22, Mr Mercer said the former Vice President’s national appeal, political experience and proven leadership give the NPP a clear advantage heading into the next electoral contest.
“Dr Bawumia presents the NPP with the best chance of winning the 2028 elections. His record in government, his understanding of the economy and his connection with the Ghanaian voter make him stand out,” he stated.
Mr Mercer, a former Deputy Minister for Energy and former Member of Parliament for Sekondi, noted that elections are won on credibility and trust, arguing that Dr Bawumia has built both over years of public service.
He added that this confidence explains why over 100 former NPP parliamentary candidates from the 2024 elections have rallied behind Dr Bawumia’s bid to lead the party again into the 2028 polls.
