The President-General of the West Africa Nobles Forum (WANF), Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I, has appealed to Ghanaians and foreign nationals to turn themselves into neighbourhood watchdogs.
He said this is because of the spate of crime, burglaries, criminally-motivated kidnappers, thefts, violent robberies, serial killings, and ritual murders currently bedeviling the nation.
The West Africa Nobles Forum, is a group of eminent personalities in the sub-region who believe in the virtues of integrity and accountability in public and private life.
In a release in Accra, Nana Dankawoso I, said the gravity of the situation calls for every resident in a neighbourhood to be vigilant and critical of strangers, movements of people in their place of abode.
“It’s time for Ghanaians to be their neighbour’s keeper, by being interested in happenings around them and reporting such incidents to the Police”.
The President-General congratulated the Ag Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare on his appointment and urged him to endeavour to make an impressive impact in his new office.
He urged the Police Service to reintroduce the visibility concept, not only in our highways but also in our neighbourhoods.
The newly elected President-General also called on parents to get closer to their wards, especially when they find them moody and trying to avoid them, or avoid home. He bemoaned the current happenings in the country where minors and teenagers kill for ritual purposes, stressing that this is a threat to national security and safety of the citizenry.
On armed robbery on our highways, while appealing to the Police to be more vigilant, he urged luxurious buses to employ Police or Military escorts to provide security for passengers. The practice, he says, is what some countries in the ECOWAS Sub-region employ to prevent attacks on passengers by bandits, especially at night.
Speaking generally on insecurity in the sub-region, the West Africa Nobles Forum President-General observed that the Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon, and parts of Burkina Faso is a wake-up call to all Ghanaians to try and give vital information to the Police.
Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso I is also the immediate past President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Pan-African Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
