A devastating road traffic accident on Friday, December 5, 2025, has claimed the life of a two-year-old girl at Degede in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
Elliana Abena Mensah Beyesel was fatally struck by a vehicle in front of her home.
The suspect driver, Kwame Wisdom Hlovor, aged 40, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations into the tragic incident, which involved a Toyota Hilux pickup.
Adom News Western North Regional Correspondent Augustine Boah reported that the 40-year-old driver was operating a Toyota Hilux pick-up with registration number GR 7390-25.
He had driven the vehicle from the Bibiani Mines Old Administration Office and parked it momentarily in front of two houses in Degede.
Police investigation revealed the tragic sequence of events:
"He had parked the vehicle in front of two houses and, while attempting to move off, knocked down two-year-old Elliana Abena Mensah Beyesel, who was standing close to the front of the vehicle."
The severity of the impact was immediate. The toddler sustained severe injuries and was rushed by concerned individuals to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
The police have taken immediate steps to secure evidence:
- The Toyota Hilux pick-up has been impounded at the police station for detailed inspection and mechanical testing as part of the legal process.
- The deceased's body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary awaiting a formal autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
- The driver, Kwame Wisdom Hlovor, is detained, cooperating with officers to ascertain the full facts leading to the fatal collision.
The case highlights the extreme vulnerability of young children in residential areas and the necessity for extreme caution by drivers when operating vehicles near homes.
