Former Black Stars coaches, Kwasi Appiah and Ibrahim Tanko have received their five months outstanding salaries, JoySports can report.
Appiah received $108,000 while that of Tanko and other technical team members is undisclosed.
JoySports understands that Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, initiated steps to settle the arrears about two weeks ago.
The ministry held discussions on settling the entire arrears of Appiah, but resolved to pay five months of that of Akonnor.
We understand that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CK Akonnor suffered a salary cut of 40% for two of the five months paid while the remaining three months were paid in full.
Thus, he received a total of $105,000. CK is still owed six months after the Ministry paid five out of the 11 months arrears.
Sources say Tanko and other members of the technical team were paid in two tranches - three and two months respectively. A cheque for the remainder of the two matured recently and was duly cashed.
For that of Appiah and CK, the ministry paid cash into their bank accounts. We understand, Kwasi Appiah is yet to receive his money, though.
