The Narcotic Control Commission in collaboration with state securities at the Tema Port have intercepted a 100-kilogram package suspected to be cocaine.
The substance, buried within a 40-foot container loaded with rice and sugar, is alleged to have a street value of over $10 million.
While investigations have already commenced into the development, sources say, the container is part of 50 other consignments that have been assigned to Global Cargo and Commodities Limited.
Available information indicates that the local clearing agent was hired by Taj, a company that imports rice and sugar in large quantities into Ghana.
The situation has resulted in the seizure of the container and the products so further searches can be conducted.
Meanwhile, the CEO for Global Cargo and Commodities Limited, Jacob Gbati has allegedly been arrested to assist the police with investigations.
