The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has assured residents of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western region that the Daboase Water Treatment Plant will be completed by May 2026, promising a more reliable and improved water supply for the region.
The statement followed an inspection of the project site alongside the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, where the Minister noted steady progress despite minor challenges.
“We have the Sekondi Water Project, which is progressing smoothly. They are not behind schedule as such. There are a few challenges that the government is addressing, but the project can be completed by May 2026,” Minister Adjei said.

He added that the commissioning of the plant would bring significant relief to residents who have faced persistent water supply difficulties. “I want to assure the residents that very soon their water will be flowing for them,” he emphasised.
Project Manager of Strabag, Vlad Falup, who is overseeing the expansion works, explained that a new chamber had been introduced at the water treatment plant to remove sediments from polluted raw water without the use of chemicals.

“This innovation will help reduce the overall chemical consumption in water treatment while improving efficiency,” he noted.
The Daboase Water Treatment Plant, which sources its raw water from the Pra River, has faced operational challenges over the years due to galamsey-related pollution and the ageing infrastructure.

The expansion, which began with a sod-cutting ceremony in the final quarter of 2024, is expected to increase daily water production by 22 million gallons, ensuring a more consistent and efficient supply for Sekondi-Takoradi and neighbouring communities once completed.
