A Deputy Minister of Education has committed to fix the dilapidated Saint Francis of Assisi Basic School in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

Speaking to Gifty Andoh Appiah on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said he is ‘heartbroken’ about the development and will act swiftly to ameliorate the plight of the people and teachers of the school.
“I have taken down the name of the town and the district and action will be taken. It is not a situation that should be seen anywhere,” he empathised.

Pupils of the St. Francis of Assisi Basic School are forced to sit on the bare floors or lie on their bellies due to lack of furniture.
The roofs covering the classrooms are also dilapidated, causing rainwater to leak into the classrooms bringing teaching and learning to a halt.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has said he will immediately ensure that a portion of Ghana Education Trust Fund is allocated to fix the problem.
He expressed appreciation to JoyNews for drawing his attention to the development and praised the media house for championing development-oriented journalism.
“Thank you for your great works that expose things like this to us all the time, I have seen some of these things in these areas and of course I am not happy that children should sit and study under this conditions,” Dr. Adutwum added.
