Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says the party's 2028 flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has exporessed full confidence in his leadership of the NPP caucus in Parliament as the House resumes for an emergency sitting.
Mr Afenyo-Markin made this known in a Facebook post on Monday, August 24, after a meeting at Dr Bawumia’s private residence in Accra to discuss party matters and the agenda before Parliament.
He said Dr Bawumia urged the Minority to remain focused on what he described as a loss of more than $1.7 billion arising from the operations of GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.
“Dr Bawumia expressed his full confidence in my leadership of the Minority.”
Mr Afenyo-Markin said the former Vice President also cautioned the Minority against attempts to divert public attention from the issue and encouraged the caucus to use the rules of Parliament to hold the government accountable.
“He called on the Minority, under my leadership, to do everything within the rules of the House to ensure the Mahama government is held fully accountable to the people of Ghana for this loss.”
The Minority Leader said he assured Dr Bawumia that the issue remains firmly on the caucus’ agenda as Parliament reconvenes.
