A passenger has died after he was allegedly thrown out of the commercial vehicle on which he was travelling.

The deceased, identified as Henry Ankobea, was reportedly removed from the car at the Akyem Apedwa intersection of the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.

It is alleged that he was travelling from Asante Bekwai to Accra but was dropped off when his health began to deteriorate and started to have difficulty breathing.

An onlooker, however, assisted the now-deceased in crossing the road and attempted to get him medical attention. But Mr Ankobea unexpectedly lost consciousness.

A police officer, Detective Sergeant Bright Armah who was stationed at the Apedwa police station, also came across the situation and rescued the dying passenger from the roadside and brought him to the Apedwa Health Center.

The police officer told Accra-based Starr News that Mr Ankobea’s blood sugar level at that moment was about 26 mmol/L, and he was immediately referred to Kibi Government Hospital at about 8:30 p.m.

DS Armah added that "about 4:30 p.m., I came across a sick passenger who, according to eyewitnesses, was abandoned by a commercial vehicle he was aboard at Apedwa Junction. They assisted him to cross the road to the other side of the road but fell on the ground dying but the people around were afraid and helpless."

"So when I got there, I hired a taxi and rushed him to Apedwa Health Center, but he was referred to Kibi government hospital in the evening around 8:00 p.m. He had some GH¢300 in his pocket, so I used part of it for the medical expenses."

"So I called the family members; I called one man who gave his identity as a military officer and said the man was his cousin. Unfortunately, the man died at dawn before the arrival of the family members the next morning, and the body was deposited at Kibi mortuary" the police officer said.

The management of the Kibi Government Hospital has confirmed the incident and said that efforts made to help the passenger proved futile.

The relatives of the deceased family members also arrived at the hospital to facilitate the necessary arrangements to transport the body to Asante Bekwai.
