The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of engaging in an act of contempt by attempting to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Tuesday, July 8, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, described the EC’s planned rerun as a “dangerous precedent” that undermines the authority of the judiciary and distorts Ghana’s electoral process.

According to him, a High Court ruling in early January directed the EC to collate and declare the outstanding parliamentary results, and that directive still stands.

He insisted that any challenges the EC faces in executing that order must be addressed through the appropriate legal channels, not through what he described as a unilateral and illegal decision to rerun parts of the election.

“There is a pending High Court order. If you think that a certain arm or institution is not complying with the directive of the court, you go back to the court for further directive. What they are doing is a clear contempt of court," he said.”

He cautioned that the EC’s action could set a perilous electoral precedent.

“The precedent is so dangerous, so catastrophic. If we are not careful, the precedent is that anytime you think you are not winning any election, cause problems, cause chaos, distract the process so that when the Electoral Commission is unable to conduct collation as a result of the police not providing security, then the Electoral Commission will come out to say ‘let’s go for a rerun’,” he warned.

Nana B maintained that the NPP won the election and insisted the party has all its pink sheets to support that victory.

“Our position is that we have won this election by a 4,014-vote difference. This is a clear majority,” he said.

“We will not be part of this illegal process because it is in contempt of court. It is a dangerous precedent, and we have won this election clearly.”

The EC has announced plans for a rerun in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North following months of unresolved electoral disputes.
