A Chartered Accountant, Edwin Kwaku Adae, has declared his intention to contest the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primaries in the Ho West Constituency of the Volta Region.
He intends to lead a rejuvenation drive to build a strong base for the opposition party “to bring back the zeal and passion that greets the black, red, white and green” colours in the Constituency.
“I am presenting myself as the center that binds, set the Constituency on fire and use the flame to light the paths of our children”, he stated in a communique copied to Myjoyonline.com.
He indicated that he would focus attention on human resource development of the constituency when given the nod to represent the NDC in the parliamentary elections and eventually win the seat.
He described himself as development enthusiast who is recognized in his hometown, Hlefi, for his leading roles in the development of the school, clinic and construction of a community center.
Mr. Adae stated that he contributed to improving literacy by donating storybooks to selected schools in the Constituency and provided scholarship to ten Senior High School students.
“This has to be expanded across the constituency in a transparent manner”, he stressed.
Mr. Adae aims to introduce and implement policies in the agriculture sector that would contribute to increasing the yields of farmers in the Constituency.
“My team will provide them [farmers] with equipment and move them from using the age old hoe and cutlass in their farming. We will provide at least a tractor and a combined harvester for them to stop the manual operations”, he said.
In the education sector, he promised to sponsor mock exams for final-year students in the basic and second cycle schools to help prepare them for the Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) and West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
He also seeks to mobilise funding to refurbish and make functional the ICT center constructed at Hlefi to help provide a solid foundation for pupils in technology.
As part of his policies, Mr. Adae said he would upgrade one of the health centers to a well-resourced health facility to serve the health needs of residents.
“Ho West has but only one factory, Agatex Paint Manufacturing Company at Tsawenu, which has also unfortunately suspended its operations due to shareholders' litigation.
The need to explore the possibility of getting investors for at least a farm produce processing company for both employment and to provide ready market for enhanced production of crops”, he said.
He also outlined his vision of enhancing vocational and technical education in the Constituency by providing opportunities for the youth to engage in skills training.
“There is the need to rehabilitate the vocational school at Awudome Avenui and such other facilities so skill training for the JHS graduates can continue.
The vocational school constructed at Anfoeta Zongo has still not been incorporated into the TVET scheme, hence not operational.
Master craftsmanship scheme, to support in training the youth in carpentery, masonry, tailoring, dressmaking, hairdressing etc will be introduced”, he concluded.
