The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has toured the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant following the successful completion of its tie-in to the national transmission grid by the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo).
The visit forms part of government efforts to supervise the integration of new power generation facilities into the national system, as part of broader measures to enhance electricity supply reliability and energy security.
The AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant is expected to add about 141 megawatts (MW) to the national grid, providing a significant boost to power supply for households, businesses and industries, particularly within the middle belt and surrounding areas.

Addressing officials during the inspection, Dr Jinapor described the grid connection as a major milestone in the government’s agenda to expand generation capacity and stabilise the country’s power system.
He stated that the project demonstrates a clear commitment to strengthening the electricity sector and ensuring reliable power delivery.

“This development represents a critical step towards improving system reliability and meeting Ghana’s growing energy demand. It reflects our focus on long-term stability and sustainable power generation,” the minister stated.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition reaffirmed that operations at the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant are being undertaken in the national interest, with priority placed on system resilience, improved service delivery and the overall efficiency of the power sector.
