Efia Odo

Rapper Kwesi Arthur and social media influencers are campaigning for the immediate release of actress and television personality, Efia Odo and members of the #FixTheCountry protest.

With the hashtag '#FreeEfiaOdo', social media has been flooded with comments, after the arrest of more than 10 #FixTheCountry campaigners by the police on Friday, June 25.

This was after they were sighted holding placards and taking photographs outside the premises of the High Court hearing the case with respect to whether or not the group should be allowed to stage a street protest.

According to social media users, the arrest of the protesters is an infringement, on their rights as Ghanaians, hence the demand for their immediate release.

Meanwhile, convenor of the group, Nii Ayi, has condemned the actions of the police, stating that the group has not been briefed on the reason for the arrest.

"Anytime the police make an arrest, you have to be told why you are being arrested. But as at now, nothing like that has been communicated to our people. We don't know why they were picked up in the first place. So it is not just unlawful but unconstitutional. That is why we are very much against it," he stated.

Meanwhile, a convenor of the group has revealed to JoyNews' Joseph Parker-Wilson that the actress and the other caimpaigners have been granted bail.

Lawyers of the campaigners, have however, refused to speak to the media as the case is currently ongoing.
