Ghana can use the 2026 World Cup as a global exhibition of its capacity to host the tournament, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has said.
The Buem MP noted that Ghana’s performance on and off the field in North America could influence future hosting prospects and challenged officials to treat the campaign as a national showcase.
Adams has already expressed belief that Ghana can co-host the World Cup with Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire.
His remarks followed the inauguration of an 11-member Inter-Ministerial Oversight Committee at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.
The group includes the legendary Abedi Pele, Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe, and GFA President Kurt Okraku.
The committee has been tasked to coordinate Ghana’s preparations and deliver a unified national strategy for the expanded competition.
"Experiences of the past, both positive and negative, will guide us into the future, ensuring that we do not just go to kick the ball, but that by the time the whole process ends, Ghana will emerge as one of the biggest winners," Adams said at the launch.
"The World Cup will be an interesting stage. We will go there and make Ghana and Africa proud, so that when we bid to host in the future, we will be seriously considered because of the strong role we played."
Government has allocated 150 million Ghana cedis to support the campaign. The Black Stars qualified convincingly and will make their fifth World Cup appearance in Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
