The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has launched a fierce criticism of President John Mahama, accusing him of abandoning democratic ideals and ruling in an increasingly authoritarian manner.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, the party official revealed that the NPP, in collaboration with four other political parties, is preparing a large-scale protest to challenge recent actions taken by the President, which they describe as authoritarian and unconstitutional.
“We, the four other political parties, are resolute, we are united, and we are going to protest. This is supposed to be mammoth,” he declared, calling on supporters and Ghanaians at large to join in sending what he termed “the loudest signal” to the President.
“Mr Mahama, we didn’t sell Ghana to you. It was not auctioned to you,” he said pointedly.
“In fact, we are surprised how, all of a sudden, a democratically elected leader — a constitutionally elected leader who received overwhelming endorsement — suddenly turns out to be a constitutional dictator and a tyrant,” he noted.
The NPP Organiser further accused the President of abandoning his campaign promises, citing the recent nomination of seven individuals to undisclosed roles as evidence of backpedalling on earlier commitments.
“He is being unprincipled, and I’m alarmed,” he said.
He expressed concern that the President’s latest actions signal a retreat from the principles and commitments he made to Ghanaians during the election period.
“Just with the nominations of seven persons, it looks like everything he sees is backtracking from all the promises he made,” he concluded.
