The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert warning of thunderstorms and possible flooding across several parts of the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 31, the Agency said two separate rainstorms currently forming along the borders of Togo and Benin are expected to merge and move into Ghana.

According to GMet, the system, combined with locally formed rain-bearing clouds, is likely to produce thunderstorms or rainfall of varying intensities from the afternoon into the night.

The coastal, middle, transition and parts of the northern sectors are expected to be affected.

The Agency warned that low-lying areas remain vulnerable to flooding, while strong winds are also expected to accompany the storms.

Forecasts indicate that from 1600 UTC to 2000 UTC, areas including Ho, Jasikan, Kpandai, Dambai, Salaga, Tamale, Kumasi, Obuasi and Nkawkaw are likely to experience rainfall.

Between 1900 UTC and 0100 UTC, the storm is expected to extend to parts of the coast, including Accra, Prampram, Ashaiman, Aflao, Aburi and surrounding communities.

From 2100 UTC to 0300 UTC, the rains are projected to affect areas such as Sunyani, Winneba, Cape Coast, Tarkwa and Axim.

GMet is urging the public, particularly residents in flood-prone areas, to take precautionary measures as the weather system moves across the country.
