Firefighters from the Anfoega and Kpando Fire Stations of the Ghana National Fire Service averted a potential disaster after a petroleum tanker was involved in a road accident at Aveme Junction in Anfoega.
The distress call was received at 5:06 a.m., reporting that the tanker, with registration number GT 5872–23, had veered off the road due to a brake defect.
“Although the tanker was not carrying fuel at the time, the situation had the potential to escalate rapidly,” a GNFS spokesperson said.

Fire crews acted swiftly, securing the area, managing traffic, and working alongside the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to disconnect nearby low-voltage power lines to eliminate further danger.
“Our immediate priority was to ensure public safety and prevent any chance of explosion,” the spokesperson added.

The tanker sustained damage to its diesel tank, bumpers, front right tyre, and headlights. Firefighters coordinated with local authorities to tow the vehicle to a safe location, ensuring that no injuries were reported and that the risk of fire or explosion was fully mitigated.
The Ghana National Fire Service confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control and the road reopened shortly after the operation.

“Thanks to the coordinated efforts of our teams, what could have been a major disaster was successfully prevented,” the GNFS spokesperson concluded.
