Accra Lions battled their way back to winning form with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Legon Cities at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The game began at a blistering pace, with Ernest Agyensem putting Lions ahead early after capitalizing on a rebound from Ahmed Yousif’s blocked shot.
However, Legon Cities fought back and equalized from the penalty spot through captain Frank Akoto after Joseph Amoah’s cross struck the hand of Richard Agyen.
Just before halftime, Lions regained their lead in dramatic fashion. Midfielder Lawrence Setirdjie delivered a precise set-piece into the box, which Musa Hamzata instinctively turned into the net.
After the break, Accra Lions had several chances to extend their lead, including a golden opportunity for Derrick Owusu, who failed to convert into an open net.
Nwafor and Yao Sokpoli also came close, but it was goalkeeper Daniel Afful’s late heroics that secured the three points for the hosts.
The victory marks an important step for Accra Lions as they look to build momentum in the league.
