The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed the recent wave of power outages across parts of the country to heavy rainfall, stormy winds, and ongoing system upgrades.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, ECG’s General Manager in charge of Public Relations, William Boateng, appealed to consumers to exercise restraint.
He explained that adverse weather conditions and increased demand, especially in urban areas like Accra, have caused widespread transformer damage, cable faults, and system overloads.

He added that some outages go unreported because residents assume ECG is already aware.
“After the festivities, we recorded several damaged transformers and multiple cable faults. Fixing these comes with a significant cost,” he stated.
Mr Boateng noted that ECG has resolved issues in Kumasi and is currently working in Obuasi and parts of Accra.
He also revealed that the company is upgrading to a fibre optic system in the capital to handle rising demand, but said the process is slower due to Accra’s congestion and infrastructure challenges.
He urged customers to report faults promptly and assured the public that ECG is committed to restoring a stable power supply.
