President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to his Sierra Leonean counterpart, President Julius Maada Bio for his presence and show of support during the national mourning of the eight victims of the military helicopter crash.
“Thank you, President Julius Maada Bio for your presence, show of support and commiseration on behalf of the people of Sierra Leone and the ECOWAS Community in our period of mourning,” President Mahama said in message.
President Bio arrived in Ghana on Friday, August 8, to commiserate with President Mahama and the Government and People of Ghana on the national tragedy.
He laid a wreath at the Ceremonial Garden of the Presidency in Accra, and signed a book of condolence in honour of the departed.
President Bio also attended an Evening of Reflection and Memorial for the Departed Eight, which was held on Saturday, August 9, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.
The victims of Wednesday, August 6, 2025, tragic helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom include Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology.
Others are Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, First National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, all of the Ghana Air Force.
Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed were laid to rest on Sunday, August 10, at the new military cemetery at Tse Addo, Accra.
