An operation by the IGP Special Operations Team in Tamale has led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of illicit drugs and unregistered vehicles.
"The operation was a success, and we're committed to continuing our efforts to keep Tamale safe," said DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil, leader of the team.
He said the operation commenced with a swoop at Belpela, following actionable intelligence on suspected drug-related activities in the area, adding that Ibrahim Abubakari was arrested for trading in illicit drugs, with two tablets of Royal 225, one tablet of Tramadol 120mg, and GHC 1,378.00 cash seized from him.

DSP Bawah said Awumi Andrew was also arrested for using dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, with one roll of the substance found on him.
"We're seeing a lot of young people getting hooked on these substances," DSP Jalil said. "We're working hard to stop the supply chain and educate our youth on the dangers of drug abuse."
He said the team also retrieved four mobile phones belonging to other suspects who fled the scene, as well as four unregistered motorcycles from Lamashegu and the Taxi Rank.

The operation was part of efforts to ensure safety and security in the Tamale Metropolis. The IGP Special Operations Team conducted patrols at the Tamale Central Market and Taxi Rank, with no further arrests made.
"The security situation in Tamale remains calm and stable, and we're committed to keeping it that way," DSP Jalil said.
The suspects and exhibits have been taken to the Sakasaka Police Station for further investigation.
