In the wake of the coup in Niger and the subsequent tensions between ECOWAS and the new military government, the Director for Africa at the Institute of International Peace Leaders has issued a compelling call.

Speaking at an induction ceremony for the Ghanaian team of the Institute, Dr. Kingsley Obasohan urged the junta to opt for diplomacy and stand down for the sake of lasting peace.

Highlighting the precarious consequences of war, Dr. Obasohan emphasised that conflicts often lead to economic disruption and the infiltration of terrorist elements.

He firmly advocated peaceful dialogue, asserting that the path of war is fundamentally counterproductive.

“Anytime there is war, there is an economic sabotage and the infiltration of terrorists who take advantage of the situation so war is actually not the way to go."

He implored the Heads of ECOWAS to maintain a continuous dialogue with the junta, encouraging them to recognize the value of democracy as a progressive alternative to military rule.

Elaborating on the Institute's mission, Dr. Obasohan revealed their proactive approach to addressing Africa's growing youth population.

He stressed the urgency of curbing the trend of African youth seeking economic prospects abroad, particularly in Europe and America.

By establishing opportunities and resources within the continent, the Institute aims to minimize, if not completely halt, the migration of young Africans in search of better prospects.

Supporting this vision, Ambassador Solomon Adjei, the Deputy Country Director of the Institute of International Peace Leaders, reiterated the paramount importance of peace prevailing within the sub-region.

In the midst of growing tensions and uncertainty, the Director's call for diplomacy and a commitment to peace underscores the pressing need for sustainable solutions in Niger and the broader West African region.

The inductees include the Regional Director (West Africa) Alexander Aaron Abbey, Country Director, Richard Collins, Deputy Country Director, Solomon Adjei, National Project Consultant, Amenyo Lotsu, National Youth Leader Kodwo Brumpon, and Deputy National Youth Leader, Love Amegazo.
