The Ministry of the Interior has released funds to clear outstanding rent allowance arrears for 2025 owed to personnel of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and the Ghana Immigration Service.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs and Communications Unit on Monday, March 2, the Ministry confirmed that the payment covers all qualifying officers within the three services who were affected by the delay.
It expressed gratitude to officers for their patience and cooperation while steps were taken to resolve the backlog.
The Ministry further announced reforms aimed at preventing a recurrence of such delays. It disclosed that the rent allowance payment process has now been automated to enhance efficiency and transparency.
Under the new arrangement, which takes effect from March 2026, rent allowances will be processed and paid concurrently with officers’ monthly salaries.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of security personnel, the Ministry stated that it will continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance and other relevant institutions to ensure that all allowances and benefits are paid promptly.
