The Banda Traditional Council has issued an ultimatum to the government and the Police to as a matter of urgency arrest the people who led the attacks leading to the stabbing and subsequent killing of the 28-year-old teacher trainee graduate, Silas Wulochamey. This, the chiefs say should lead to their prosecution to serve as a deterrent.
Silas met his untimely death after he was allegedly stabbed by some people believed to be NPP activists at Banda Kabrono. The incident happened on Monday, 13th July 2020, while returning from a visit to his pastor at Wenchi Methodist. He died at the Wenchi Methodist hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
The violence that led to his tragic death is as a result of the voter registration exercise as both the NDC and NPP in the Banda district accuses each other of wrongdoing.
The Council, in an 11-point statement, outlined some of the alleged incidents between both parties since the inception of the registration exercise at areas including Banda Ahenkroh, Bongase, Kabrono, Surogbo, and Nyire.
The Banda Traditional Area has many Ewe settlers, working as fisherfolk.
But over the years, one thorny issue has been whether they are eligible to register there instead of their place of origin, Volta Region.
According to the Chiefs of Banda, though they have the right to register, alleged thugs of the Parliamentary Candidate of the NPP, Joe Danquah, continue to harass them resulting in multiple confrontations between the parties.
The Chiefs also accused Joe Danquah for his complicities in the recent attacks, giving orders for one Moro, the elder brother of the MP for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, to be beaten at Ahenkroh.
At Nyire registration center, the Chiefs in their statement alleged that guns and Military accoutrements were retrieved from a vehicle driven by one Afraine, the junior brother of Joe Danquah with no arrest made by the security officers.
They further alleged that while Joe Danquah and his team were returning from Bongase, there were clashes that resulted in gunshots and reckless driving at Banda Ahenkroh, knocking two people down and subsequent attacks and vandalism of a car belonging to the NPP team in front of the Banda Traditional Council and the Banda Palace.
The statement, signed by Secretary to the Banda Traditional Council, Kwabena Badu said the climax of the clashes on the day led to the stabbing and killing of Silas when a passenger vehicle from Wenchi to Banda Ahenkroh was attacked at Kabrono.

The Chiefs said the situation is unacceptable and inimical to development since, without absolute peace, Banda will continue to lag in development as no one would invest in a chaotic area.
The Chiefs called on the government, the Inspector General of Police, the Military High Command to as a matter of urgency investigate the circumstances leading to the killing of Silas and the actions and inactions of the Security Officers detailed to registration centers in the Banda district".
"We are law-abiding citizens and if within the shortest possible time no action is taken against those in possession of guns and the killers of Silas, we will advise ourselves ", the chiefs said, adding, "we are interested in the criminal matters which we think when resolved and perpetrators brought to book, peace will prevail".
The chiefs reiterated that they are not against the government nor the NPP in the Banda Constituency but seeking justice for the murdered soul, the wounded, and to curtail any future occurrence of these political clashes.
