Black Stars defender, Gideon Mensah, expressed satisfaction with his performance in Ghana's win over Madagascar on Wednesday, June 1, at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Mensh played the entire duration of the game as a central defender as Ghana opened their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with an emphatic win.
Though he was not tested that much as Ghana did much of the attacking, Mensah showed his quality and played with confidence going on to grab an assist.
Speaking in the post-match presser after the game, the 23-year-old said though it was not an easy task, he is willing to adjust to any given role.
It wasn’t an easy role but as a player, as a national team player you have to be ready and adjust to every position you have to play because at the end of the day we are here to serve Ghanaians,” he said
“Whichever way we have to serve Ghanaians, we have to do it. I had to do it and it went well.”
Despite a good performance as a centre-back, Mensah insisted that his best role is as a left-back.
“I would say left-back, because that’s where I’ve been playing [in my career], so it’s definitely left-back.”
The win over Madagascar sees Otto Addo's charges go top of Group E in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, ahead of Angola on goal difference after they beat Central African Republic with a 2-1 score.
