The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised concerns over the suspension of construction works on the Kasoa-Winneba highway, blaming the setback on government delays in settling payments owed to contractors.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, July 2, the Minority Leader described the situation as a growing hardship for road users, particularly along the heavily trafficked Winneba-Kasoa stretch.
His comments came shortly after Parliament approved a $360 million credit facility from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank. The funding is intended to support Ghana’s ongoing recovery efforts and strengthen long-term economic stability.
Afenyo-Markin who is also the minority leader used the occasion to urge the government to address financial obligations to contractors, many of whom he said have abandoned critical infrastructure works across the country.
“The Kasoa-Winneba road, the contractor has left the site, and it is making motorists suffer,” he said. “Mr Speaker, I would like you to let them know that the contractors are working on major roads, that needs to be completed,” he said.
