The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has urged party members and executives to be measured in their expectations of the President and his government.
Speaking during the President’s thank-you tour to Ho on Friday, he reassured the people that the future remained bright for the region.
“The sun will surely shine high on the Volta Region,” he stated, expressing gratitude to the President for his appointments so far and for entrusting sons and daughters of the region with significant roles.
President John Dramani Mahama embarked on the thank-you tour starting from the Volta Region to express his gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support and votes during the elections.
HE expressed appreciation to them for their overwhelming support in voting him back to power, describing the region as a beacon of democracy and a cornerstone of the NDC.
President Mahama emphasised that his appointments were guided by principles of competence and the ability to deliver, adding that the appointment of Madam Dzifa Abla Gomashie as Minister of Tourism was aimed at developing the region’s rich tourism potential.
Similarly, Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Roads and Highways Minister, was expected to ensure the maintenance and improvement of quality road infrastructure.
President Mahama reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the needs of the Volta Region and leveraging its strategic importance for national development.
Highlighting the region’s contributions to the NDC’s success, Mr Agbavitor said it had a 90.11 percent voter turnout in favour of the party in the 2024 general election, reclaiming the Hohoe seat (winning all parliamentary seats in the region).
It significantly reduced the influence of opponents by 48 per cent, he said, expressing optimism that with the President’s initiatives and resetting agenda, the margin would shrink further to single digits in the future.
He, however, indicated that the region remained open to more appointments in the coming years.
Togbe Patamia Dzekle VII, Paramount Chief of Bator and Vice President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, pledged the support of the chiefs to helping the President achieve his “Resetting Ghana Agenda.”
He reminded the President of the promises made to the people during his campaign and the advice offered by the chiefs, urging him to deliver on them.
Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, expressed his appreciation to the President for the swift ministerial appointments since taking office.
He urged the President to prioritise resolving the water challenges facing Ho and fix the roads around the region.
Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Christian Episcopal Association in the Volta Region, appealed to the people to exercise patience and pray for the President’s success.
He emphasised that the task ahead was challenging, and collective support was needed for the President to fulfill his promises.
